St Georges – Irene
Sundays suggested ride is an old route with a new leg. Both easy and harder routes leave Karaglen, past the Action Cricket onto Isando Road (M39) past Kelvin Power Station. Turn right at the robot at Parkland Drive (M88) and onto Modderfontein Road (R25) down to Esselen Park and the Silos. We turn left onto Pretoria Road (M57) and carry on straight to the Olifantsfontein intersection. Both the easy and harder ride carry on straight over the intersection onto Goedehoop Avenue (M57) which heads toward St Georges. About 4 km down this road the 2 groups split.
The harder ride:
Carries straight on past the Quarry and St Georges over the R21 highway, up the climb to the intersection with Nellmapius Drive (M31). Here we turn left and cross over the R21 highway and down to the Irene Café. From here we proceed back via the Silos and Esselen Park on the same route as the easier ride. Both routes are about 80km and the easy ride should take about 3.5 hours.
The easy ride:
Turns left at Porcelain Street by the Quarry and goes under the bridge, meeting up with Main Road (M18). Here we turn right and proceed to the Irene Café past the Red Barn and the Golf Course. This group will re-gather and head back on the same route via the Silos and Esselen Park.
